The Spam Wars Take Centre Stage, Finds IDC

  Date:2005-06-29 04 Author: Origin:bp dedicated server
NORTH SYDNEY, June 23rd, 2005 - According to a recent IDC study, the demand for antispam solutions have grown explosively over the last 12 months and is expected to continue to do so as spam has shifted from a nuisance to a major security risk for email users, IT departments, and service providers.

The market for antispam products and services in Australia is expected to reach AU0 million in 2009, representing a compound annual growth rate of roughly 29% from 2004 to 2009 (see Table 1). The fastest growing markets across antispam solutions are the managed service and appliance based offerings. This is due in part to the small base both these market are starting from, around AU to AU million in 2004 respectively. However, the antispam software market provides the greatest total market opportunity, growing at a 25.7% CAGR to reach AU million by 2009 from a base of AU million in 2004.

"IDC expects the antispam solutions market to be a key growth market for Australian resellers and system integrators over the five-year forecast period. Some organisations have already enjoyed 50% to 100% growth in email filtering and antispam software sales over the last 12 months, albeit off a small base. There are several factors driving the phenomenal growth we are seeing in this space, from optimising network bandwidth usage, insuring corporate security policies are adhered to, and legal liability kept in check by allowing employees to access electronic communications technology. The drivers for antispam software are not expected to wane in the near term, especially with the number of organisations still lacking this kind of technology in Australia," says Megan Dahlgren, Senior Analyst for Software, IDC Australia.
